10 Tips for GREAT Senior Portraits

1.  Clothing:  Stripes, plaids and small prints do not translate well on camera.  Large plaids and prints are fine.  Bring a variety of color and vary the style.  All one look (like t-shirts) gets boring.  Vary the dress level to include some casual, some medium and some dressy.  Prepare complete outfits including jewelry, shoes and accessories on hangers.

2.  Pleasing Mom:  Bring several outfits and of them, include at least two that Mom is going to love.  Guys, if you have facial hair that Mom hates, we have a solution.  Take several images with the facial hair, then shave it clean so Mom gets the shots she wants.  It does grow back : )

3.  Bring props that help define you.  Sports equipment, uniforms, musical instruments, etc.  Sunglasses, phones and cars are also popular choices.

4.  Bring a friend!  Having a few shots with your best friend is a must have!

5.  Tanning:  Tan lines and sunburn/peeling are not attractive in portraits.  Avoid sunburn.  Don’t overdo your tan and get orange either.

6.  Makeup:  Makeup should only be slightly heavier than usual.  Avoid makeup with shimmers or SPF.  If your mascara is clumpy, replace it.

7.  Blemishes:  Make sure your photographer retouches at no additional charge.  Retouching on several poses could cost you a pretty penny and trust me, you want your skin smoothed at least a little bit.

8.  Glasses:  If you wear glasses, ask your optometrist if you can borrow a pair of frames without the lenses.

9.  Sleep:  Make sure you get 2 nights of good sleep before your session.  Beauty sleep is real and bags under your eyes are the proof!

10.  Have fun!  This should be a fun experience where you get to feel like a celebrity for a few hours.  Allow yourself to be pampered by the photographer and trust them to create amazing images you will cherish for a lifetime!

Get to Know a LUXE Senior

We absolutely believe that we photograph the most interesting, coolest, funnest, best High School Seniors in Iowa.  They all have a little edge to them and I think that’s where we connect.  LUXE doesn’t have any interest in doing the standard portraits for Seniors.  We want our Seniors to rock their Senior year and make it memorable for a lifetime.  This starts with images that can be shared with friends and family which show the real person, not some cookie cutter pose on a cookie cutter background.  Every LUXE session is custom-designed to the personality of the Senior.  We want our Seniors to feel like they were celebrities for the day….and have the pictures to prove it!

Coffee Table Book

Our hardcover, coffee table books are custom designed and will include 20 of your favorite images from the session.  The pages lay flat and printed on thick, durable press paper.  This product is a great choice as a parent album for a wedding.  Seniors love the edgy, elegant grunge styles we come up with and children’s books are sweet and adorable.

Our best selling product continues to be our 5×7 proof magazine.  All of the final images from your session are printed in high quality on lustre photographic paper and spiral bound with a frosted cover.  The pages are 5×7 and the image size is 4×6.  A great keepsake and wonderful way to share all the images.

Jordan Steuer, 2012 Rockin Senior Model

Chelsey Dzaboff, 2012 Rockin Senior Model

Chelsey Dzaboff belongs in a magazine and we have the pictures to prove it!  We shot Chelsey in 6 different surroundings and she rocked every one of them.  Chelsey is a lifeguard at Grand Harbor Resort in Dubuque, Iowa and attends Senior High School.    She likes all kinds of music and plans to study Sociology after High School.  Her sister, Courtney, and mom, Amy, came along for her fun ride into the photographic world and are just as excited as Chelsey to see her images revealed at the “Are You Ready” party, July 23.  We are so honored that Chelsey chose to rock her senior portraits with LUXE!  ~Sindi

 

Grant Lapke, 2012 Rockin Senior Model

Grant Lapke is a real rodeo superstar and his hard work, talent and dedication has taken him straight to the National High School Rodeo Finals in Gillette, WY.  Grant loves the country, his animals and hanging with his friends and girlfriend, Alissa.  After High School, he plans to attend college to go into Farm Pharmaceutical Sales.  Grant is a determined, friendly and fun person and we are so happy that he is representing LUXE Photography as a 2012 graduate!  ~Sindi
